Pain and Glory is the full contact fightsport flagship of the Seni show. Unique because it brings together top international fighters, matched across four fight genres- K1, Kickboxing, MMA and MuayThai, Pain and Glory’ has rapidly become the country’s premier genuinely mixed martial arts showcase.

Probably the most ambitious element of Seni 04, the first ‘Pain and Glory’ attracted three and a half thousand spectators to the NEC Arena. A host of International competitors from the United States, Thailand, France, Czech Republic and Japan fought the best Britain had to offer, across four distinct disciplines. ‘Pain and Glory’ was a unique and triumphant experience that saw fourteen prestige bouts, three under kickboxing rules, five under Muay Thai rules, four under MMA rules and two under K1 rules, featuring no less than seventeen champions, five of them World champions, resulting in six stoppages.

In its short history, ‘Pain and Glory’ has showcased an enviable ‘who’s who’ of World class British talent, including veteran MMA stars Lee Hasdell, Mark Weir, Phil Norman and Paul Jenkins and emerging talent Paul Taylor, now in the UFC. Similarly, the cream of British Thai boxing has been represented with such heavyweight talent as Liam Harrison, Michael Dicks, Damian Trainor, Reece Crooke, David Pacquette, Kevin Harper, Tim Thomas, Richard Cadden and Jordan Watson.

Established stars Gary Turner and James McSweeney have fought at ‘Pain and Glory’, as have former martial artists turned pro-boxers, Pele Reid (World Freestyle Champion) and Paul Newby (World Karate Champion), whilst Kickboxing has been represented by World Champions Fran Zucalla, Harvey Harra and the Lawson Brothers.

The show has seen a number of ‘firsts’, not least professional boxing for the first time on any martial arts card-the first time a boxing bout at the NEC has been staged since the heady days of Nigel Benn. Similarly, ‘Pain and Glory 4’ at Seni07 saw the first ever officially sanctioned K-1 8 man tournament in this country. It was also the first time the venue had changed from Birmingham to London but the success story simply continued as the ExCeL welcomed 3,000 spectators, including celebrities such as Ernesto Hoost, Don ‘The Dragon’ Wilson and Diana Lee Inosanto, to a fight night that many are saying is quite simply the best they have witnessed in this country.

It was a truly incredible show, with so much on offer, including a K-1 Superbout between our very own Peter Crooke and the dynamic Albert Kraus, the full contact debut of Leon Walters, the continued growth of Michael Dicks and the return of the fighting Lawsons but the 8 man tournament was the undoubted highlight.

Seni08 will continue the illustrious ‘Pain and Glory’ tradition with, as always….
